We’re taking a look inside the new Jaguar Type 00 concept car to answer the question: Just how clean and equitable is the supply chain for this innovative new EV?

Our analysis shows that the Jaguar Type 00’s anticipated supply chain is looking much cleaner and more equitable than the average auto in production around the world. Type 00 will be part of an all-electric lineup of Jaguars from 2025 onward, and not only does Jaguar source 100% renewable energy for all its UK manufacturing sites, Jaguar is also working toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2039 (though light on details as to how). They also ask their suppliers to respect Indigenous Peoples’ Free, Prior and Informed Consent for mining, and plan to recycle the batteries in the Type 00 through a partnership with Altilium.

But Jaguar could still do much better on sourcing transparency, and if they’re serious about their 2039 goals, we’d need to see them make formal purchase agreements with suppliers for fossil-free metals, like green steel.

Jaguar isn’t included in Lead the Charge’s annual leaderboard, soon to be updated for 2025, simply due to their small volume of vehicles produced. But this company is still innovating and claiming a lead role in the industry with their cleaner supply chains. Jaguar and other boutique auto brands like Polestar are leading the transition by building exciting EVs with clean supply chains – the Polestar 0 is their “moonshot goal”. The leadership of companies like Polestar, Rivian and Jaguar shows that it is possible for auto companies to build cleaner and more equitable supply chains as the industry electrifies.

  • BATTERY CIRCULARITY: Batteries are to be recycled through a partnership with UK recycler Altilium, fostering EV battery circularity.
  • CLEAN ENERGY: The batteries will last for 478 miles – or 200 miles in a 15-minute rapid charge – and will be manufactured with 100% clean energy.
  • EV TRANSITION: Part of an all-electric lineup of Jaguars from 2025 onward.
  • CLIMATE EMISSIONS: Jaguar aims to reduce emissions 46 percent across their full value chain by 2030 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2039.
  • GREEN STEEL: Type 00 is a pilot product for product-level greenhouse gas (GHG) data reporting, following RMI’s Steel GHG Emissions Reporting Guidance. But Jaguar has yet to sign any formal agreements for green steel procurement.
  • HUMAN RIGHTS: The Jaguar supplier code of conduct requires suppliers to respect the Free, Prior and Informed Consent of Indigenous Peoples impacted by mining projects.
  • MINERAL SOURCING: Powered by lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries to be produced in the UK by Agrata, which unfortunately provides no transparency about the sourcing of minerals.
